Introducing Mrs. Goosen…

Although I am a BC girl at heart, my first eleven years of marriage were spent enjoying the beautiful prairie provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan.  It was at The University of Winnipeg that I completed my Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees and began my teaching career as a primary teacher.  In 2009 Patrick and I felt ourselves ready to move ‘back home’ and settled here in the beautiful city of Chilliwack.  Raising three boys here has been such a blessing as we enjoy spending time together on our boat in the summer and the ski hills in the winter.  I will be starting my fourteenth year teaching at Highroad Academy and have a new role as elementary department head. I love being part of this amazing staff.  It was here that I found my ‘niche’ – teaching intermediate!  I love their passion, curiosity, in-depth conversations and helping students grow closer in their walk with Jesus.  In my spare time I love heading to Starbucks for a coffee, try to keep in shape, and I am always on the hunt for a good bargain!

I grew up in the beautiful farmland of Chilliwack and graduated from Trinity Western University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Education. This will be my fourth year of teaching; my husband Kristian and I moved to Richmond when we got married and I spent a number of years teaching at a Christian middle school within biking distance from our house. I love to spend time outside, picking tomatoes from our garden, hiking the Chilliwack valley mountains or biking around Rosedale. My latest adventure has been the joys and challenges of motherhood! We welcomed our beautiful baby girl into the world last July, and I’ve been so fortunate to be able to stay home with her this last year and watch her grow from a bright eyed bouncing baby to a running-climbing-babbling almost toddler. I am eager to step back into the classroom this fall as I love teaching and have certainly missed it! I look forward to a great year getting to know these wonderful students.
