A Few Things…

I have a few reminders for this week:

Knight’s Day this Wednesday, November 25th.

Please bring an empty 2L bottle by Thursday, November 26th.

We won’t have spelling this week, due to a short week.

Spelling City & 2L Pop Bottles Needed

I just wanted to apologize to all of you who have been trying to acces the new spelling lists on spelling city.  My laptop is currently in for repairs and I can’t seem to access my account page from my iPad.  I will hopefully get my computer back tomorrow and will post the new words on spelling city ASAP.

On Thursday and Friday we will begin looking at the respitory system and will be making a model of the lungs.  If each student could bring in a 2 litre Pop bottle by Friday, that would be great.  If you have extra, please send them along just in case some students don’t have any.

Thank you!

Changes in Professional Development Dates

Changes in Professional Development Dates

As you may or may not be aware, the Ministry of Education has been working on changes to the provincial curriculum which will affect all Grades from Kindergarten through to Grade 12. These changes in curriculum come at a time when technology and jobs are rapidly changing and students look towards a future where different skill sets are going to be needed. These changes in curriculum are massive and will reflect a dramatic shift in the education for BC schools. Furthermore, the BC Government has mandated that these changes be put into place by the beginning of next year.

While we are excited about the focus on teaching that involves inquiry based learning/project based learning, more hands on learning and student choice, these changes will involve a large amount of extra time needed by teachers and staff in order to be prepared and ready for next year. Highroad Academy will also be involved in an audit which happens every three years, that the BC government uses to ensure that we are following the guidelines and expectations as it pertains to private schools in BC.

For both those reasons, we will be adding two days of additional professional development on the school calendar. We understand that adding additional days on the school calendar at this point is hard on families. However, these additional days are in line with what the BC Government has recommended and supplied funding for school districts in the public system in order to help them in preparing for this massive shift in curriculum. We want to ensure that we are ready and prepared for the following year.

The additional dates we will be adding to the calendar are:

Dec. 11 – All day Pro-d with parent teacher interviews in the afternoon.

Mar. 4 – All Day Pro-d

We thank you for your patience and understanding.
