Canning Jars Needed

I am in need of a large canning jar for each student for a Science project this Friday.  If you have several at home then please send them along in case not everyone has one.  We will wash and return them once we are finished with them.

Thanks so much!

Friday Update

We had a busy week here in the grade 5/6 classroom!  The energy was high with the excitement of the book fair this week as well as Fall Fun Afternoon!  Below I have some November dates for you, spelling words for next week as well as some other classroom information.

November Dates:

Tuesday, November 1st – Winter Uniform Begins – no more shorts or sandals

Thursday, November 10th – Remembrance Day Assembly – 2pm

Friday, November 11th – Remembrance Day – No School

Monday, November 14th – Pro D Day

Friday, November 25th – Early Dismissal – 12:15

Wednesday, November 30th – Knight’s Day

Spelling Words:

List One: cousin, passenger, nurse, mayor, tailor, daughter, guest, nephew, husband, clerk, exhort, counsel, answer, imitate, correct, commit, approve, share, reply, whisper

List Two: therefore, wisdom, peace, abundance, too, quarrel, handkerchief, ceiling, rein, neither, further, teeth, piece, steak, often, morsel, oxygen, carriage, sauce, witness

School Store:  The classroom economy has just finished it’s second month and has been very successful thus far!  Our school store was opened for the second time this year and we are starting to run low on supplies.  If you happen to have extra candy this week then we would love a small bag full!  I can put together little grab bags and sell them in November’s store.  Small chip bags are also a great selling item – as are full sized chocolate bars.  I keep my eyes open at the grocery store and this week I managed to pick up 4 for 86 cents each…not too bad.  Small stuffies and other small items that your kids don’t use anymore are also HOT items!!  Thank you for helping us out with this!

Comfort Kits:  I am still missing a number of these and would like to have them all in by the end of next week…thanks!!

Bible Memory Verse:  I have adjusted the BMV page to reflect the break we took with our weekly Bible memory verse.  The students will be tested on one this Thursday.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Pumpkin Math – It is time for our annual Pumpkin Math morning.  On Wednesday, October 19th  we will be working with Mr. Hancock’s class as we explore pumpkins and Math!  We will be counting, measuring, weighing, making patterns and getting messy!  Please send along a large t-shirt or something that can get dirty.  Many students like to use kitchen gloves when they are taking out all of the goop and seeds from their pumpkins so please send those along if needed.  I will also need 1-2 parent volunteers to help out next Wednesday morning.  We will begin around 9:15 and go until noon.  Please send me an email at pgoosen@highroadacdemy.com if you are able to help out.

Fall Fun Dress Up & Fun Afternoon – On Friday, October 28th we will have a fall colour dress up day and a fall fun afternoon.  The intermediate department will be split up into groups and rotate through some fall themed centers – it is always a fun afternoon!

Spelling Lists and Bible Memory Verse – both will resume next week.  The new spelling lists are listed below and will be on Spelling City for practice.  If your child gets 20/20 on Spelling City and you write a note indicating this in their planner or via email they will get a bonus mark on their Friday quiz.
