Friday Update

We had an exciting week here in the grade 5 classroom.  Pumpkin Math on Monday and Science World on Wednesday…both so much fun!  I have added some pictures below for you to enjoy.  We have some things coming up so please keep reading!

Fall Dress Up Day & Soup Lunch:  Next Tuesday we have a fall dress up day and a soup and bun lunch.  We are all going to be enjoying some homemade soup that is using fresh ingredients from our Highroad Garden.  Thanks to those who brought in some ingredients!  Pizza will still be sold on Tuesday.

November Dates:

Wednesday, November 1 – Winter Uniform Begins

Friday, November 10th Remembrance Day Service at 2:00

Monday, November 13th  Stat Holiday (no school)

Wednesday, November 29th Knight’s Day

Spelling Words:  president, relative, boundary, thirteen, mice, circus, either, critic, culture, problem

Field Trip!

We are excited to go to Science World tomorrow!  Just a reminder that we need to be at school at 7:45, with the bus leaving at 8am sharp.  Bring lots of snacks and a bag lunch, wear your Knight’s Gear and get ready to have a fantastic day!  No electronics on the bus, please.

Homework Troubles

I wanted to send a quick note about the high number of incomplete homework assignments we have been having these last couple of weeks.  We try not to burden students with too much homework but there are assignments that are due every week or few weeks.  Vocabulary work is always due on Friday and we have current event maps due once a month.  In addition, daily work that is not finished in class will also be sent home for homework.  Please check your child’s planner and have a daily conversation with them about homework that is due.  As an aim to create responsible students, we have not initiated a planner sign.  If incomplete homework continues then we will be putting students on this.  Students that do not turn in homework will also forfeit their recess in order to get their work completed.

Thank you for your support!

Friday Update

We had a busy week here in the grade five classroom.  There are many things coming up so please read on…end enjoy a few pictures at the end!

Pumpkin Math – We are excited for our Pumpkin Math morning next Monday.  Please make sure your child has a large shirt to put over their uniform and gloves (if they don’t like getting their hands dirty).  So far I don’t have any volunteers and I really need at least two parents to join me.  Please let me know if you are able to join us Monday morning from 9-noon.

BMV will be on Tuesday next week

Field Trip –   We are looking forward to our field trip next Wednesday.  Please have your child here by 7:45 as the bus is leaving at 8am sharp.  We will return at approximately 3:30.  Students will need to pack a bag lunch with extra snacks for the bus.  As it is Knight’s Day, students will be permitted to wear Knight’s Day gear and casual pants on the field trip. For parents who are driving, our plan is to be at Science World by 9:30 as it takes a few minutes to get ourselves organized.  If parents would like to drive with their children, please email me so we are not waiting for them.  On Monday volunteers will be getting a schedule as well as a list of students that they will be supervising.  Please bring this with you on Wednesday.

Scholastic Book Fair – This is happening on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week.  It takes place in the lobby and is open both before and after school.

Interim Reports – these are coming home today.  If you have any questions or concerns then please send us an email and we would be happy to meet with you.

Fall Fun Dress-Up & Soup Lunch – On Tuesday, October 31st we will have a fall fun dress up day.  This is where students can wear casual clothes in fall colours.  No costumes, please.  We will also be having a soup and bun lunch together.  Pizza will also be available this day.

New Bible Memory Verse – it is up on the blog and the students have gotten a new sheet in their planner.  The first verse will be tested next Wednesday.

Photo Retakes – if you need your child to have retakes please let the office know or touch base with Mrs. Goosen on the weekend so she can let the office know.
