It is hard to believe that spring break is over and we are back to school tomorrow! I hope you had a WONDERFUL break and were able to spend time relaxing with friends and family! April is proving to be a busy month and we have a number of things coming up.

Summer Uniform Starts Tomorrow: students are able to wear shorts and sandals to school. Please note that sandals need to be black, white or brown and need to have a back strap.
Art Gala & Talent Show: Please join the intermediate department on Thursday, April 11th from 6:30 – 8:00 for our annual Art Gala and Talent Show. Students will be showcasing their favourite art pieces and we will also have a talent show. Please enter through the church lobby and come dressed in your Sunday best!
Before and After School Duty Times: Just a friendly reminder that we have staff on duty before school from 8:00am until the bell rings at 8:55am. A decision is made each morning based on the weather either to keep the students inside, have them go out to play or a combination of both. It is important for us to keep our students safe and to know that all students are accounted for and are playing where they are expected to be in case of an emergency. Students who are wandering in the hallways will be asked to join other students in the designated play areas, unless they are being cared for by a parent.
After school supervision begins outside at 2:55pm and ends at 3:30pm. At 3:30pm, all remaining students are brought inside and supervised in the school foyer until 4pm. If the weather is very poor, students may be brought into the foyer before 3:30pm in order to keep them dry. Again, it is very important to all of our staff that we are able to keep our students safe at all times when on campus. Students who are wandering the campus after school will be asked to join other students either on the playground or in the school foyer. Thank you so much in advance for helping us keep our students safe!
Silent Auction Baskets: The week before spring break we were collecting $5 per elementary student to put together grade level baskets for our upcoming gala silent auction. We thought it might be good to extend our collection of donations for this week as well. If you are able to donate $5 to help us make a basket for the silent auction, your child can give the donation to their teacher or pay at the office. Thank you!

I think that everyone in the classroom is on the same page…we are looking forward to spring break! The class has worked so hard at staying focused these last few weeks, even though they are getting tired and needing a break! We have a few things coming up this week so please read on!

Talent Show Auditions on Monday – These will take place after school tomorrow.
Pancake Breakfast this Friday!
Spring Break is coming up, which means it’s time for a pancake breakfast! The intermediate teachers are excited to host grades 4-6 for breakfast. This is always an awesome opportunity for community develop and fellowship. The pancake breakfast will take place on Friday, March 15 and will be served before school between 8:00am-8:50am. Mrs. Moisen’s, Mrs. Goosen’s, and Ms. Froyland’s classroom will be open for cooking and an eating space for the students. Come early, get some fluffy pancakes, and celebrate with the department.
If you are interested and willing to come help out, we are looking for parents to come early and flip some pancakes. We also need parents who may have a griddle or chafing dishes that we can use! Please let us know if you are able to help out! It should be a great morning!

Bake Sale this Tuesday
On March 5th, the primary department will be hosting a bake sale to support our school’s mission trip to Thailand. The sale will be open before and after school in the foyer on March 5th. Each item will be $1. There will be individually packaged gluten-free items available. Thank you for supporting Team Thailand.
Math Mayhem this Tuesday – Come and join us in the gym this Tuesday from 6:30 – 8:00 pm for a fun evening of Math games.
Pancake Breakfast
Spring break is right around the corner! To celebrate we are having a pancake breakfast for grades 4-6 on Friday, March 15th. Breakfast will be served before school, between 8:00 – 8:50am in Mrs. Goosen, Ms. Froyland and Mrs. Moisin’s portables. Art Gala & Talent Show

Talent Show
Auditions are underway for the talent show portion of our Art Gala. We have auditions taking place on Tuesday (singers) as well as some make up auditions taking place later in the week. Teachers will notify your children of these dates and times.
There will be a teacher Judging panel on Monday, March 11 after school. Mrs. Shinness will be releasing a list of those students who have made it through the first round of auditions to be eligible for this final panel audition. For those students elected by the panel, they will be responsible to prepare for a Dress Rehearsal which will be held during school on Wednesday, April 10. Students will need to be ready at this time if they would like to perform on the 11th.
Reception
PARENTS, WE ARE LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP PLAN, DECORATE, AND RUN THE RECEPTION DURING OUR ART GALA. THIS WILL NOT INTERFERE WITH OUR TALENT SHOW!! We would like different parent committees working with:
- DECORATING and SET UP (This would take place the morning of the Art Gala)
- HELP DURING THE GALA (rotate different parents)
- CLEAN UP (after the Gala)
WE ARE CELEBRATING OUR 40TH ANNIVERSARY AT HIGHROAD AND WOULD LOVE TO MAKE THIS A SPECIAL RECEPTION!!

Genius Hour – We have two more weeks of Genius Hour until spring break. After the break we will be using our Genius Hour time to focus on a Science Project. Genius Hour will resume once our Rube Goldberg Machines are complete.
