Merry Christmas

Ms. Miller and I want to say a HUGE thank you for the thoughtful cards and gifts we received. We wish your family a wonderful Christmas and we look forward to seeing your beautiful children in the new year.

PS – The rest of the Rube Goldberg videos will be posted shortly! Experiencing some technical difficulties…the joys of technology! =)

Weekly Update

This is our final weekly update of 2021.  The students have been working hard this last week on their Rube Goldberg machines – and they are making great progress!   They will be showcasing them this Tuesday afternoon and are welcome to come into school on Monday and Tuesday at 8:00 for some extra building time!

Here are a few things for you to note this week:

Christmas Concert Recording –This is happening this Wednesday afternoon.  Your child can wear a Christmas sweater or any Christmas-type outfit. We ask that uniforms NOT be worn on Wednesday.

Class Party on Thursday –  Thursday afternoon we will be having our white elephant gift exchange.  Please send along a $5 wrapped gift for Thursday.

Early Dismissal on Friday – students will be dismissed at 11:30 Friday morning.

We are looking forward to a great week together!

Weekly Update

The countdown to Christmas break is on!  This week we got into the Christmas spirit with a classroom Christmas decorating party – it literally looks like our class had a Christmas explosion!  We also started learning about Advent this week, with the theme of HOPE.  Rube Goldberg projects have begun and bonus points if kids can incorporate some element of Christmas into their project, and of course we are counting down the days until Christmas break.  That being said, I am so proud of the continued focus the students have had, despite being SO READY for a break!

Here are a few pieces of information for you…

Rube Goldberg Projects:  The students have been SO excited to create these machines, and they are coming along very nicely!  I love seeing the creativity, teamwork and problem solving skills that come into play with a project like this.  We will be presenting our Rube Goldberg machines on Tuesday, December 14th, and will have the head of our high school Science department, Mrs. Johnsrude, come and be our project judge.  Awards will be given to our first, second and third place finishers.

December Bible Memory:  A sheet will be coming home with our two December BMV’s.  Below I have next week BMV and I will also post it under the Bible Memory tab.

 Dec. 10th – Matthew 1:21
She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.

Christmas Concert Dress Attire:  Wednesday December 15th is Christmas sweater day at Highroad. This is perfect as it’s also our annual Christmas performance.   The performance will be recorded live and all of you will be able to view online. No Christmas sweater? No problem! Other options are: Solid colour tops (we’re trying to stay away from large logos, tops can be worn inside out), jeans, coloured pants, toque, scarf, boots, vests.  If you have a Christmas dress or suit- all great!  Please don’t feel like you need to go and purchase any items!  We ask that uniforms not be work on this day.

Salvation Army Food Drive:  Through the month of December, Highroad Academy is partnering with the Salvation Army as they work to serve our local community. We have set a goal of raising $6,000 between now and December 15th.  All donations can be made at the school office, through e transfer and debit.  If we make our goal by Wednesday, December 15, we will celebrate by having an ANIMAL DRESS UP DAY the first Wednesday we are back in January.  Thank you for your support.

Christmas Class Party & White Elephant Gift Exchange is on Thursday, December 16th.  Please send along a wrapped $5 gift for our gift exchange!

November & December:

Friday, Dec 10 – BMV

Wednesday, Dec 15 – Christmas Concert Recording, Christmas Sweater Day

Thursday, Dec 16th – White elephant gift exchange/class party, BMV

Friday, December 17th – Last Day of School & early dismissal 11:30

Rube Goldberg Projects are Underway!

The students have completed their planning portion of the Rube Goldberg machines they will be building over the next two weeks.  They will need to bring some supplies from home – especially cardboard.  I have some supplies, but not enough to service every group in the class.  Please check with your child to see what they need to bring to school.

We will begin building tomorrow, so supplies brought this week would be very helpful.

Thank you!
