New Bible Memory

A new Bible Memory sheet will be coming home tomorrow.  Just in case you don’t see it, here is the verse for the week:

 Friday, March 4th

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone.     1 Timothy 2:1

Weekly Update

We had a great week here in the Grade 5 classroom!  Wednesday marked Pink Shirt Day and we spent time in the afternoon discussing the origin of Pink Shirt Day. We watched a ‘flash mob’ done by some local students and had a great discussion on what it means to be bullied (social conflict vs bullying).  We spent time discussing how when asked, Jesus said the second most important commandment was to “love your neighbour as yourself.”  We talked about how we can apply this to our lives and what it means for us as classmates, siblings and friends.  We ended off our time with students designing a ‘pink shirt day’ t-shirt.

We are only a few weeks away from spring break!  I only have a few news items  and calendar dates for you…

School Supplies:  Many students seem to be running low on whiteboard markers.  We use them almost every day for Math – please check with your child to see if they need a few more.

Upcoming Dates:

Friday, March 4th – Knight’s Day

Friday, March 11th – Knight’s Day

Friday, March 18th – Knight’s Day

Saturday, March 19 – Sunday, April 3rd – Spring Break (woo hoo!)

Weekly Update

We hope your family takes time to relax and enjoy this long weekend!  We have a few things coming up over the next few weeks…

French Quiz on Wednesday:  Students have brought home a French number sheet and will be given an oral quiz on Wednesday.  I will choose 10 numbers to read aloud in French and they will write the number for me.

Digestive System Quiz on Friday:  Students have completed their unit on the digestive system and a study guide was sent home earlier this week.  The quiz will be a mix of matching terms to a diagram, multiple choice and a small portion of fill in the blank.

Wednesday is Pink Shirt Day: Students can wear pink tops (or tops with pink in them) and casual bottoms on Wednesday as part of our anti-bullying initiative.

Upcoming Dates:

Friday, February 25th – Knight’s Day

Weekly Update

We had a wonderful week here in the Grade 5 classroom. Here are a few things coming up for us…

Olympics:  We are very excited for the Olympic games and we will be engaged in LOTS of great olympic activities over the next two weeks.  Some things include graphing Olympic medals (comparing Canada to another country), writing a persuasive piece on the best olympic sport, using Olympic sports non-fiction books to learn important text features, learning the “Science of Sports” and more!  We will be watching daily highlights and cheering on our team!  Check out CBC kids at  https://www.cbc.ca/kids/olympics/beijing2022/games for some great Olympic information.

Fundraising Lunch for Guatemala:. Just a reminder to head over to the Munch A Lunch page to order lunch on February 14th.  The cutoff date is Monday, February 7th.

Bible Memory Verses: This term we will be restructuring our Bible Memory verses to include a reflection piece – both drawn and written.  It is important to learn our Bible Memory verses each week as well as know how to apply them to our daily lives.  I will be showing students the new format next week and have also included a photo so you know what the expectation will be.
