We had a lovely week with the art gala evening & The Beauty and the Beast show yesterday.  Four weeks left of school – I can hardly believe it!  This year has just flown by!  Here are a few announcements about things coming up:

Spring Showcase on Monday:  We are looking forward to our Spring Showcase on Monday evening.  Here is some information for you:

• Doors will open at 6:00.  All students need to be in the classroom by 6:10pm.  Students need to be picked up after the concert in their classrooms.
• All K-6 students are to wear spring-colored t-shirts (solid color, no writing or graphics) with jeans or casual bottom (no shorts, no sweatpants, no skirts or dresses).  Sandals or running shoes for footwear.

Library Book Return: Library books are due back the week of May 28-June 1st.  Any books not returned will be billed to parents.

Calling All Pencils:  If you haven’t already, please send a couple of pencils next week with your child so we will have enough to last us through June.

We are looking forward to the Beauty and the Beast production tomorrow!  Please ensure the following:

• students come dressed in their uniform
• They have a bagged lunch – nothing that needs to be microwaved or needs hot water.

Happy Long Weekend!!!  It’s hard to believe we are closing in on the final month of school!  We have a busy calendar this next month so please ensure you are scrolling all the way down to check out the calendar!  Here are a few announcements:

Calling All Pencils:  We have run out of pencils and have 4.5 weeks left of school.  If you happen to have a few around the house that you could send with your child, I’d be grateful!

Art Gala on Wednesday:  We are delighted to extend an invitation to our upcoming Art Gala, where we will proudly present a collection of artwork created by our exceptionally talented students in Grades 4, 5, and 6.  6:30 PM – 8:00 pm in the Chapel.  Please note that students must be accompanied by a parent.  We look forward to seeing you Wednesday evening.

Field Trip on Thursday:  We are looking forward to heading to the Chilliwack Cultural Center on Thursday.  Please send a bag lunch as students will be enjoying their snacks and lunch before returning to school.

For me personally, Friday was definitely a highlight of our year together.  We had SO MUCH FUN exploring the mine and all it has to offer.  The students were very polite and represented Highroad so well.  We also had a great time at Shannon Falls and it was great to stretch our legs after a long bus ride.  I have included a lot of photos from our trip on Friday.

We should be back around 3:15 today!

Good morning!  We are looking forward to the field trip to Britannia Mine Museum tomorrow!  I thought I’d send a few reminders:

• Arrive at 7:30 tomorrow morning.  The bus is leaving promptly at 7:45. We have a long drive and cannot wait for students who are late.
• Students MUST wear long pants and closed-toed shoes.  We enter a cold and damp mine, even in the summer.  Students can bring shorts to change into at lunchtime if they’d like.
• Send along a bag lunch with a lot of snacks.  We have a long drive there and back.
• Games and books can be brought on the bus – no electronic devices are allowed.
• We will be heading to Shannon Falls either before or after our time at the mine, time permitted.
• We are hoping to arrive back at 4:00.
• For those who are driving, you can meet us at the school at 7:40 OR meet us at the mine.  Our program begins at 10:30.

We are looking forward to an amazing field tomorrow.

Happy Friday to you!  We had a great week here in the Grade 5 classroom!  We came to the end of our poetry slam this week – congratulations to Scarlett as she was our big Winner!  The students did a fantastic job writing their poems and are eagerly awaiting their work to be published!  I’ll be working on compiling their favourite poems over the next several weeks and then sending them off to a publishing company!  =)

Here are a few items for you to note:

Field Trip on Friday:  We are heading to Squamish on Friday – it’s a LONG drive, but it’s worth it!  Britannia Mine Museum is probably my favourite place to take classes!  The bus is going to leave at 7:45 to ensure we have enough ‘wiggle room’ in case traffic is backed up.  Please have your child at school for 7:30 on Friday.  Just a note that no electronics on the bus please.

BMV:  There are many students struggling to memorize their weekly BMVs.  I do not send homework home often and this is one item that they need to take responsibility for learning at home.  Please remind students to put their BMV paper somewhere where they will not lose it – and have then practice this at home.  Thank you for your support with this.

Library Book Return:  Please have all library books returned between May 28 – June 1.

I hope you had a fantastic long weekend and were able to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather we had on Friday and Saturday!  We had a wonderful day at the track meet on Thursday – I was so proud of our entire department – the great attitude & fun they had, their perseverance and the way they cheered each other on.  It was a great day!  I have some photos down below for you.
