This afternoon we had fun decorating sugar cookies…thought you’d enjoy a few photos!
We had a lovely week here in the Grade 5 classroom. The class is decorated for Christmas and we have the beginnings of Rube Goldberg machines scattered around the room…it’s looking bright AND productive!

Report cards are coming home today!!
Sugar Cookie Decorating on Wednesday: I’ll be busy making sugar cookies this weekend so we can have fun decorating them on Wednesday. I will provide cookies and icing. Please send along some fun food items to decorate with…we will be sharing them amongst the class so all students can decorate.
Food Drive: I have attached a poster detailing the food drive that is running until December 20th.
Christmas Concert: We are busy getting ready for the intermediate Christmas concert on Friday, December 15th at 1:30. Hope to see you there!
Rube Goldberg Machine Supplies: Students are starting to build their Rube Goldberg machines. Please send in any supplies on Monday.
Christmas Lunch & White Elephant Gift Exchange on Tuesday, December 19th: Please send a wrapped $5 gift for our gift exchange. A boy or girl could get this gift!!! Below I have a lunch item assigned to each student. Please send along the lunch item on the morning of Tuesday, Dec 19th. You can also send it on Monday if that’s easier. Mrs. Shortridge and I will provide plates, napkins, condiments and cups.

I hope you had a lovely weekend! We had a great week last week as it was full of both learning & fun! On Thursday we decorated the classroom for Christmas…it is certainly looking festive! We also enjoyed skating on Friday and had a lot of fun with our classmates on the ice.

Christmas Party…Save the Date! On Tuesday, December 19th we will be having a class lunch and Christmas party. Each child will bring a lunch item to share along with a $5 wrapped gift for a class White Elephant Gift Exchange. I will blog and send home a sheet that lists the food item each person will bring for the party. This is always an exciting afternoon!
Grades 4-12 Christmas Concert on December 15th @ 1:30.. Please note that we are having an afternoon concert for grades 4-12 this year.
Christmas Dress up: The last week of school before the break the students can wear any type of Christmas clothing in place of their uniform. Ugly Christmas sweaters, green and red, Christmas hats etc.

I hope you and your family are doing well! My apologies on getting the last two blog posts out later than usual – I have been away for the last couple of weekends. We are ramping up for our final month of school before the break. These last four weeks will start getting busy…we are looking forward to entering into the Christmas season with this amazing crew!
Here are some things coming up:
Decorating the Classroom on Thursday: We will be enjoying hot chocolate and decorating the classroom for Christmas on Thursday! Please feel free to bring decorations to school – we will send them home again during our last week. BYO Mug for hot chocolate, please!
Ice Skating on Friday: Mrs. Shortridge reports that fun was had by all last week skating (photos down below). I (Mrs. G) am looking forward to taking a turn skating this Friday. Please remember to bring skates and helmets!

A few announcements and things coming up…
Western Day Dress-Up is this Wednesday.
This Thursday, November 23rd we are skating from 11:00 – 12:00.
On Friday, December 1st we are also skating from 10:30 – 11:30.
On Friday, December 1st we have noon dismissal.

We had a lovely week here in the Grade 5 classroom. 11 students received a slurpee today for beating Mrs. Goosen in our first reading challenge! She read 10 books and was out-read by almost half the class. We will see how this next reading challenge goes. We will have our next ‘beat the teacher’ reveal at the end of February.
Students started a new Science unit this week and are learning about Force, Motion and Simple Machines. They had to figure out the steps to a Rube Goldberg Machine…and did pretty well! We have some photos below for you to enjoy!
We had a student get dressed up in “The Armor of God” for Bible this week – it’s also a cute photo!

PD Day on Friday & Remembrance Day In Lieu on Monday. We will see the students on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday this next week.
Pizza Day is on Thursday this week.

Friday November 10th is a PD Day for teachers – no school
Pay to Wear Casual: Monday, November 6th is Pay to Wear Casual. It’s a suggested $2 donation for elementary students.
Hot Lunch Fundraiser: Monday, November 6th is a hot lunch fundraiser. Orders were placed last week.
Poinsettias: You can purchase beautiful poinsettias and other Christmas greenery online through the school store. Pickup dates for poinsettias are November 30th & December 1st.
Skating Permission Slips: Students will be skating on November 23rd and December 1st. Please send permission slips in this coming week, if you haven’t done so already.

Solutions & Mixtures Quiz on Monday: a study guide is going home tomorrow. Please help your child prepare for this unit test.

Missions Fundraisers
We have a high school team heading to the Philippines over spring break. They have a number of different fundraisers happening this fall.
Pay to Wear Casual: Monday, November 6th is Pay to Wear Casual. It’s a suggested $2 donation for elementary students.
Hot Lunch Fundraiser: Monday, November 6th is a hot lunch fundraiser as well. All orders need to be placed through Munch a Lunch by Monday, October 30th.
