Garden News

Our class garden box is blooming and growing.  There are all types of delicious foods popping up and we are hoping to enjoy some of these before the end of the year.  As we approach summer, Mrs. Johnsrude is wondering if there are one or two parents who would be willing to come and collect produce from the garden boxes.  There will still be veggies throughout the month of July and it would be great to see that go to good use.  There will be several high school students who will continue to look after watering and weeding, but they need parents to come get the vegetables and distribute them to anyone who is interested.  If our class decides to just leave the boxes at the end of the school year, the high school students will use or donate the remaining vegetables that are harvested.

If you are interested in collecting the vegetables, please let Mrs. Derksen know before the end of school, otherwise our harvested food will be donated back to the community of Chilliwack.  Thanks!

Ideally, I would get a list of parents and their phone numbers and then we will set up a schedule for pick up.  My students would call the parents and they would come get the produce.

A few things…

Good afternoon!  Below are a few items that have come up this week:

Sandals & Dress Code:  We wanted to send out a reminder that brown and black coloured sandals are the only ones that are permitted.  Sandals must have a back strap, so no flip-flops please.

Grade Six Parent Meeting:  Mrs. Lade & Mrs. Johnsrude will be holding a grade six parent meeting on June 15 at 4pm to talk about the grade seven program and answer any questions you might have about the high school.  Please plan to attend.

Year End Assembly:  we have decided to do a “Poetry Slam” for the year end assembly.  Students chose two poems for us to recite and then further broke themselves up into two groups – each group performing one poem.  Students have been given their poems and the sections that they will be reciting.  These parts need to be MEMORIZED!  We will work on them at school but it would also be helpful if students could work on them at home.

Rube Goldberg Projects:  students have eagerly begun planning their final Science project – a Rube Goldberg machine!  This is a culminating project for our Force and Simple Machines unit.  Students will finish outlining their machine this week and will need to bring in any materials on MONDAY, JUNE 8th.  We will be having Monday and Tuesday to build these machines, so please don’t forget to bring materials in on Monday.  If it’s easier, the students can bring them in this week and we will store it in the classroom.

Here is a video for you to enjoy…a HUGE Rube Goldberg machine!
