Welcome back! We have had a great start to 2015 in the grade 5/6 classroom! We have been busy starting a new writing unit as well as a new Science unit. In writing we are working on descriptive writing skills – these skills will aid us in our Social Studies and Science research and inquiry projects coming up. In Science we are starting a unit on Extreme Environments. I have some pictures below of the students using different pictures of extreme environments to ask questions and make observations. Looking forward to both of these units!
I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas break! It seems like the last two weeks have passed by all too quickly and it’s now time to get back to reality! In the next couple of days I will post some upcoming dates to remember, but for now I have added this weeks’s spelling lists. There will be no BMV this week.

To all the students and parents of our class:
We thank you for spoiling us with all the love and presents over the last week. We wish you a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful, relaxing holiday with your friends & family. See you in the New Year!
Mrs. Goosen and Mrs. Derksen
Over the last couple of weeks, the grade 6’s have been working on a court room drama to go with our Social Studies unit on Canada’s Justice System. Today they performed it for the grade 5’s in our class and for Miss Warden’s grade 6’s. They did a fantastic job, here are a few photos, taken by Jacob B – our court photographer.
We had a great time making our Cookies in a Jar’s on Tuesday morning. And the kids loved presenting them to the ‘Pizza Mom’s’ as well! We ended the day with some Christmas games and had a friendly game of ‘toss the marshmallow through the wreath’ – table group vs table group! There is definitely a healthy dose of competition in this classroom!
Hope you enjoyed the pictures!
Just a reminder that students should be at the classroom by 6:40 this evening.
Looking forward to a fantastic Christmas concert!
