This Week’s Focus – Citizenship

I hope you are having a fantastic weekend!  We have come to the end of the first month of school and have loved getting to know our new class.  This class is filled with unique and beautiful boys and girls, and we feel privileged that we get to pour into their lives this year.  Mrs. Doerksen and I spend a lot of time working together and discussing strategies and ways to best meet the needs of your children.  We want to see them grow academically, spiritually and emotionally this year.

Over the next week or so, the class will be focusing on citizenship.  We have come up with six lessons that I will outline below. We encourage you to have daily discussions with your child on what they have learned and how they can personally contribute to creating a positive, healthy classroom climate.

Each day we will have a ‘classroom quote’ to start their thinking as well as a theme lesson for the day.  Below I have given you the topic we will be looking at as well as the quote – hoping this will start some rich discussions at home.

LESSON #1 FOCUS:  CREATING A CLASSROOM OF TRUST

Quote of the Day:  If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care—then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.  Phillipians 2:1-4 Message (this is our theme verse for this mini-unit)

LESSON #2 FOCUS:  THINKING BEFORE WE SPEAK & EMPATHY

Quote of the Day:  If you can’t think of anything nice to say, you’re not thinking hard enough.  By Kid President.

LESSON #3 FOCUS:  INCLUDING OTHERS

Quote of the Day:  Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody.  By Kid President.

LESSON #4 FOCUS:  BE A LEADER, NOT A BOSS

Quote of the Day:  If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more, you are a leader.

LESSON #5 FOCUS:  HOW TO WORK TOGETHER

Quote of the Day:

Together

Everyone

Achieves

More

LESSON #6 FOCUS:  HOW TO DISAGREE POLITELY

Quote of the Day:  It is okay to disagree.  It is not okay to disrespect.

Thank you!
Mrs. Goosen & Mrs. Doerksen

This looks awesome Mrs G and Miss D! So good to open up these conversations early in the year and lay a good foundation for positive interactions and ways to manage difficulties. Thank you for initiating these steps.
