40th Anniversary Gala

A Message from Mr. Morris

Dear Highroad Community,

We’re almost there! It’s just over a week until the 40th Anniversary Weekend. Things are coming together and we’re very excited about gathering as a community and celebrating what God has done through and in the lives of families that call Highroad Academy their school.

Our Alumni basketball and volleyball games on Friday, April 26th kick off our Anniversary weekend The volleyball starts at 5pm and then we’ll be having a three team basketball mini-tournament. Come out and see the legends of the past and present stars. We will have the café open as well as a food truck selling burgers, hotdogs, and fries. Bring the family out for a great evening of fun. We look forward to seeing you there.

Saturday, April 27th, is our Gala Dinner. We will start at 5:30pm with appetizers. Dinner will be served at 6:00pm. A few notable guests will share their Highroad memories and we’ll be showcasing some iconic HRA videos. It’s going to be a fabulous night of reconnecting, reminiscing, and enjoying delicious food.

As part of this celebration we’re having a silent auction to raise money to complete the beautification project we started in September. We’re very thankful to all the individuals and businesses that have contributed items or services to this fundraiser. We have well over 60 lots to bid on including vacation getaways, décor items, tools, electronics, home improvement services and so much more. The deadline to buy tickets for the Gala Dinner is next Tuesday, April 23rd at 10am so head to the school website (https://highroadacademy.com/product/40th-anniversary-gala/) to confirm your spot now.

Blessings,
Stuart Morris

We had a great week this week!  Students have settled back into the classroom routine very well and we have had an excellent start to this last stretch of school.  I thought I would give you a snapshot of what we are working on:

Math – we are in the middle of our measurement unit.  Perimeter, area, and time are the three things we will be focusing on over the next few weeks.

Language Arts – we have started our poetry unit in writing.  Students are busy writing poems and we have also started our Poetry Slam.  This is where students choose a poem to recite and we have a fun poetry reading competition!  In Reading the students have begun the novel, City of Ember.

Science – before spring break we finished up our Simple Machine centers and are now beginning to plan out our Rube Goldberg Machines.  Students will do their planning on Monday and begin construction on Tuesday.  They may need to bring some items from home (cardboard boxes etc.) and I will also have many items on hand for students to use.

Bible – we are focusing on the story of Easter.  Last week we learned about Palm Sunday and this week we will focus on the last supper.

Social Studies – students are working on Canada’s natural resources.

We have a number of things going on over the next few weeks…

Please remember to send along 2 dozen cookies with your child on Thursday morning.  If you have more than one child in the intermediate department then please choose one item to bring.

Art Gala starts at 6:30 on Thursday.  Please come through the church lobby and we are encouraging the students to wear their ‘Sunday best’.

Bible Memory Verse on Wednesday:  A new BMV was handed out to students this week and we also have it here on the blog.  Students are able to recite it or write their verse out.
