Weekly Update

A Week in Review…

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in our room…like Christmas overload!  Students had LOTS of fun decorating our room on Monday!  I will post some pictures below!  Here’s a snapshot of what we did this week:

Social Studies: Each superhero group is writing a story and preparing for their presentations on December 17th. The creativity continues as each group writes about heroes that are all connected to regions and natural resources.

Reading: We’ll be finishing up Wonder next week! On Thursday we spent some time reacting to the text and writing about our feelings about what we read.

Art: We’re wrapping up our mixed medium art project on regions of Canada. Next week we are working on a Christmas project.

Writing:  We finished our first event story this week and will be writing a Christmas themed event story next week.

Science:  We began our next Science unit on Force, Motion and Simple Machines.

Math:  We are finishing up working with the properties of multiplication and will begin learning to multiply by 10’s, 100’s and 1,000’s.

Bible:  We are turning our focus to Advent these next couple of weeks.  This week we learned about The candle of hope.

School Drop Off:  Just wanted to send a reminder that we would like students to arrive between 8:45 and 9:00.  We are asking that students not get dropped off earlier, if at all possible.

Knight’s Day on Thursday, December 10th

Pro D Day on Friday, December 11th

Class Party & White Elephant Gift Exchange on Thursday, December 17th:  On the last day of school we will be having a Christmas Party.  We are asking each student to bring a wrapped $5 gift for a white elephant gift change.  We will also enjoy some snacks and play Minute to Win it Christmas Edition.  If you could please send along a pre-wrapped snack to share, that would be appreciated!

Christmas with our Buddies:  We will be doing some activities next week with our buddies!

Salvation Army Food Drive:  In lieu of canned food this year we are asking for monetary donations, with a school goal of raising $5,000.  If you are able to help this cause, your child can send in money or you can do an e transfer.  E-transfers can go directly to etransfer@highroadacademy.com  Thank you!

Upcoming Dates:

Dec. 9 – Intermediate Chapel

Dec. 10 – Knight’s Day

Dec. 11- Pro D Day

Dec. 16- Silly Sweater Day

Dec. 17- Class Party (last day of classes before Christmas break)
