Weekly Update

We had a busy and productive week in the Grade Five classroom!  Our room is FULL of amazing Rube Goldberg Machines!  Students have been working so hard on these machines and I am excited to see how they all work on Monday!  Here is a snapshot of our week:

Math:
Continuing our learning on long division

Writing:  Finishing up our persuasive piece on ‘Should We Have Pets?’

Bible:  Learning about prayer.

Science:  Today was our final day to work on our projects.  Mrs. Johnsrude will be coming Monday afternoon to judge our students’ Rube Goldberg Machines.

Reading: This week we continued our unit on oral language. We talked about different ways that we can make our communication more effective and everyone came up for a metaphor for oral language. Students will be practicing the story they want to share with the class next Thursday. We will be going outside for this, so it is important that everyone bring warm clothing for February 11.

Social Studies: Our unit on government is over. We discussed how laws are formed and why the process takes so long. On Thursday we started a brand-new unit on immigration. Over the coming weeks your child will be asking questions about their family history. If your family has a sensitive immigration story or if your child doesn’t have access to information regarding their family’s country of origin or journey to Canada can you please send an email to Ms. Miller asap so that we can discuss this and make appropriate arrangements. amiller@highroadacademy.com
