Cultus Lake Reminder

 When: Wednesday, June 21, 2023

Where: Cultus Lake Waterslides

Time: Leaving School at 8:30pm. Returning to school at approx. 3:00.

Cost: There will be no cost to HRA Grade 4, 5 and 6 students. Parents are welcome to join us and will pay $25 at the gate.

On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, the Grade 4, 5 and 6’s will be going to the Cultus Lake Waterslides for their year-end field trip. We will be leaving at 8:30 and returning at approx. 3:00.

Parents and small children are welcome to come along for the day, but due to the high number of students, we will not be able to provide transportation. Students in Grades 4, 5 and 6 have already paid for this field trip through their field trip fund. Parents and siblings 4 and under who wish to come along may pay $25 at the park. In order to respect our grade specific field trips, please do not pull other school age children from class to go to the waterslides. Students who go to the waterslides on the bus must return on the bus.

In bathing suit selection, please refer to our non-uniform standard. Please err on the side of modesty to help make staff, parents and students feel comfortable. In the event that a child’s bathing suit does not meet these standards, they may be asked to wear a t – shirt.

This will be a rain or shine field trip so please come prepared!

Students should have the following items:

  • Sunscreen
  • Hats
  • Swimwear
  • Clothes to change into
  • Towels
  • Money (optional – for the canteen)
  • Backpack
  • Lunch/snack

Final Weekly Update

This is your official final weekly update from me…insert tear!  I am so sad that I am saying goodbye to this amazing class on Thursday.  They have been an absolute joy to teach – I hope you know how much I treasure your child and the year we’ve spent together!

We have a lot of activity happening this week…and I’m praying that the weather will be warm for our outdoor activities…here we go:

Monday:  Potato Party!  Below is the list of items each child should bring on Monday (some have already brought…thank you).  We will eat our delicious potato sundaes around 2:00.  If you want to help, please be at school at 12:50.

Tuesday:  Afternoon Fun Day. We are looking forward to our fun afternoon as we have lots of exciting games and activities planned.  Students will be put on teams – please wear your team colour (if possible).

Weekly Update

Two weeks left…how is that possible!  I have such mixed feelings coming into these last two weeks…part excitement and part sadness.  I have LOVED teaching your child this year, this class has been so much fun!  We have a busy last two weeks of school with a lot of things coming up.  See below for all the things going on:

Next week we will be starting to send items home.  Please feel free to send a few reusable bags with your child.

Potato Party on Monday, June 19th:  We have been caring for our potato plants all spring and next Friday we will be ready to harvest them.  What do we do with delicious school-grown potatoes?  We have a potato party, of course!!  I will be sending home a sheet next week outlining what your child should bring for the potato party on June 19th, and have also outlined it below.   You can bring it early if you’d like (especially the items that won’t spoil before then).   I would love 2-3 helpers on Monday from 12:45 – 3:00.  If you are able to help, please send me an email at pgoosen@highroadacademy.com.

June 14th – we are presenting our Fractured Fairy Tale reader’s theatre plays to our buddies & then celebrating our final time with them by having some treats together.

June 15th – We have our final class store and students see if they have ‘beat the teacher’ with the number of books they have read.

June 16th – slurpees to the winners and 1/2 day, noon dismissal

June 19th – potato party (see below & letter coming home on Monday)

June 20th – Fun Day afternoon

June 21st – Cultus Lake Waterslides

June 22nd – Last day of school, 1/2 day & report cards go home

Weekly Update

We have made it to June!  Only three weeks left of school…where has the time gone!  Here’s a quick snapshot of what we’ve been working on…and what’s coming up:

Math:  Finished a unit on money and getting ready to work on probability.  We combined our Science and Math (area and perimeter) and created sustainable gardens.

Language Arts:  Writing fractured fairy tales and next week working on reader’s theatre plays, next week we will finish our literature circle novels.

Science:  Finished our unit on Sustainability and we are still caring for our potato plants.  Students finished their sustainable garden projects and they look beautiful!

Socials:  We are learning about Regions of Canada and are starting a Superhero Project next week

Bible:  We are working our way through a Psalms unit.

Upcoming Events: 

We have a busy few weeks!  Our calendar has a list of things happening before the end of the school year.

BMV:  We have two more weeks of BMV’s to memorize.  Let’s encourage our child to work on their memory verses and finish the year strong!

Home Reading Challenge:  On Thursday, June 15th we will have a Beat the Teacher edition to see who read more books than me.  The winners will be getting slurpees on Friday.
