Friday Update

We had a great week this week and have a busy week to come!  We have two outdoor field trips next week so PLEASE pray for sunshine!

Lindeman Lake – Monday morning we are heading up to Lindeman Lake.  Please make sure your child is dressed in layers and has appropriate footwear for hiking.  There is no snow up at Lindeman right now but students may want to bring gloves or toques as the weather could be chilly up there. They will also need to bring a lot of water and have a bag lunch.  There is a chance of scattered showers on Monday so please ensure they are dressed appropriately.

Track and Field Meet – There will be a final letter coming home on Monday about Thursday’s track meet at Bear Creek Park.  Please make sure to have this marked in your calendars.  We are looking forward to another amazing day as this is always a fun event for our department!

School Store – We are running low on supplies for our school store.  If you are able to donate some small bags of chips, candy, chocolate bars, unwanted small toys, or cans of pops it would be greatly appreciated!

Reminders for Wednesday

Good morning,

I wanted to send a couple of reminders for tomorrow:

  1.  Full Dress Uniform is tomorrow.
  2.  Service Day – please remember to bring muffin ingredients that are listed in the planner.
  3.  Genius Hour – many students are ready to begin their new projects.  Please check and see if they need to bring any materials to school tomorrow.

Thanks so much!  Enjoy your day!

Friday Update

It was another busy week here in the 5/6 classroom.  Students were excited to start Genius Hour again as well as our newest writing unit – Poetry!  The students have all chosen a poem to recite to the class and we are having a friendly “Poetry Slam” – a poetry reading competition.  A few groups have gone and I am looking forward to hearing the rest of the class recite their poems in the coming weeks.

Service Day: Next Wednesday our class will be baking muffins to give to Cyrus Center, a shelter for at-risk youth.  Each table group has chosen the type of muffins they will make and have divided up the ingredients.  The ingredients are listed in the student’s planner.  Please remember to bring them WEDNESDAY, APRIL 19th.  We will be baking in the morning and I will deliver them after school.  I would love a parent or two to help out between 9:30 & 11:00.  If you are able to come please email me at pgoosen@highroadacademy.com.

Full Dress Wednesdays:  Just a friendly reminder that full dress uniform needs to be worn each Wednesday.  This includes pants for the boys and a kilt for the girls.  They need to have button down shirts and their cardigans.  We will start handing out classroom ‘fines’ (part of our classroom economy) for students who do not dress appropriately as well as awarding table points for the table groups who are all wearing their correct uniforms.

Kleenex Needed:  We have run out of Kleenex for the classroom.  If you could bring in a box next week to help us get through the end of the year, that would be much appreciated!

Field Trip Forms:  This week there has been a track and field form sent home and today there is a Lindeman Lake Hike form coming home.  Please sign and return those next week.

Friday, April 14th – Good Friday, school closed

Monday, April 17th – Easter Monday, school closed

Wednesday, April 19th – Service Day (bring baking ingredients)

Monday, April 24th – Pro D Day

Friday Update

The students worked hard and we had a great week!  In Science we are learning about mining and the students became ‘cookie miners’ yesterday.  We learned about extracting minerals and the importance of caring for our environment!  I have some pictures for you to enjoy down below.  We seem to have a lot of things happening over the next several weeks so please take note of the items below.

Pajama day:  On April 11, we will be celebrating the coming spring by….. wearing pajamas!! That’s right! Wear your warm snugglies on Tuesday and let’s drive the cold rain away!
Students are allowed to wear their pajamas or other lounging wear on Tuesday but may also have something warm like a housecoat in case of chills. Pajamas should be appropriate with no bellies showing or anything else that might be considered inappropriate. You can bring a teddy or such and slippers to wear in the class.
If students do not wish to participate, that is completely fine and should then just wear their uniforms as if it is a normal day.

Easter Assembly: The Easter assembly will be at 2:00 on Thursday.  All parents are welcome to join us.

Genius Hour:  Genius Hour begins again on Wednesday.  If your child is in the middle of a project then please have them bring supplies so they can continue working.  Many of them will be starting new projects and will be in the planning stages…nothing needed from home.  =)

Easter Weekend:  Reminder that there is no school on Friday, April 14th and Monday, April 17th.

Pro D Day:  Monday, April 24th there is no school – it’s a day for the teachers to learn!

Knight’s Day:  Wednesday, April 26th
