Weekly Update

We had a great week this week and enjoyed the beautiful Remembrance Day assembly this morning.  Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been working on this week:

  • Students are LOVING  Amal Unbound, the novel we are studying.  We will finish it up early next week.
  • Multi-digit multiplication was what we started working on this week.  It can be a tricky concept for some students.  We will keep working on this over the next couple of weeks.
  • We did a variety of activities this week leading up to Remembrance Day.
  • We learned about colour theory this week and students went into the garden and looked for different coloured items to put around the colour wheel.  We will begin a colour name art project next week.
  • We finished our mini-unit on the overview of the Bible and we have been working on memorizing books of the old testament (we are up to Ruth).
  • We had our ‘Beat the Teacher’ book reading reveal today!  I managed to read 11 books since the beginning of the school year.  All students that read more than 11 will receive a slurpee on Monday afternoon.  Students will now begin again & have until spring break to try and beat the number of books I can read!

Parent Teacher Interviews:  Just a reminder that there is no school on Wednesday, as I will be meeting with each of you!  =)

Scholastic Book Fair:  Next week is our scholastic book fair. Tuesday – Thursday the book fair will be open before and after school for students and parents to purchase books.  It will also be open on Wednesday if you’d like to take a look while you are here for interviews.

Weekly Update

We had a wonderful week together, but I have to say my favourite day this week was Wednesday (which was my birthday).  You may have heard that all my kids were sick this week so every single ‘birthday tradition’ was postponed.  Let me tell you, though, your kids made me feel soooo loved on my birthday!  So many beautiful cards, special gifts and at least three ‘happy birthday’ songs were sung!  I made a birthday cake to share with the class and I truly felt celebrated!  Your kids know how to love well!

Here are a few things for this week…

Parent-Teacher Interviews on Wednesday, November 16th

On November 16th we have set aside a day to meet with each of our families to discuss your child’s progress.  Below is a link for you to sign up for a 15-minute slot.  It is important that we meet with each family for an interview.  If you are unable to meet on the 16th please email me at pgoosen@highroadacademy.com to arrange another time.
