Genius Hour & Animal Research

Tomorrow we have genius hour and I would like to remind students to bring any materials to school that they may need.  We will try to have a few more iPads available for them to work with!  If the students haven’t quite come up with a plan yet I would encourage them to look on the DIY site tonight so they can begin planning out their first project tomorrow. We look forward to seeing these first projects come together!

On Thursday and Friday we will be working on mini animal research projects – Thursday collecting our research notes and Friday putting them into a Haiku Deck during our computer class.  Please bring your research books or pages to school this THURSDAY.

See you tomorrow!

Enjoy your week!  Go Canada!

Valentine’s Day with our Buddies!

We have enjoyed our Friday afternoon buddy reading times and thought it might be fun to do some Valentine’s Day activities with them this week.  This Thursday afternoon we will be making a Valentine’s animal craft and decorating (and eating, of course) heart shaped sugar cookies.  I have made the cookies and  icing and would love for the students to bring some candy to decorate the cookies.  It does not need to be a huge amount of candy – I figured if each student brought a little ziplock full then we’d have lots to go around the two classes.

Thanks!

A Few Announcements…

Hi Everyone,

Uniforms:  Since we have had pretty chilly temperatures lately, full dress uniform has been cancelled tomorrow.  Everyone should be dressing very warmly these days.  Please send toques, gloves, and warm coats along with your kids.  Thanks so much!

Genius Hour: Yesterday, the grade 4 and 6 classes had a kick-off assembly to launch our new class called ‘Genius Hour’.  We, along with Mr. Hancock’s class, are going to be devoting one hour every Wednesday afternoon to let the students explore topics that they are passionate and curious about.  We are very excited to see what kinds of things they want to learn about and share with the class.  A newsletter went home  yesterday to explain it in more detail.  If that newsletter didn’t find its way home, I’ll attach it on here below for you to see.  We are looking for parent volunteers that would be able to help us with guiding the students in their projects.  If you are available on Wednesday afternoons from 2-3pm, we would love your help.  Your help once a month or every other week would be greatly appreciated.

Yesterday the students got to show off their amazing cell projects!  I am always amazed at the student’s creativity!  It was very apparent that a lot of hard work went into these plant and animal cells!  I thought I would let you see their projects!  Enjoy the pictures and have a fantastic weekend!

Sensational Cell Projects & Jump Rope for Heart

I am so excited to see the student’s cell projects tomorrow!  We will be set up in the dragon’s den (if you are looking at the portables it’s the one on the far right) and we would love for you to stop by and admire their creations.  We will be set up from 1:30 to 2:00.  Just a reminder that everything on the handout needs to be filled in as it will be part of the student’s marks.

Tomorrow we also have jump rope for heart.  Please return all the envelopes tomorrow – whether they contain donations or not.

Thanks!

Calling All Collections & No Bible Memory

Good morning!  Last week the students were asked to bring in any sort of collection to start the classifying portion of our Science unit.  Most students forgot their collections last week so we will be doing this lesson on THURSDAY of this week – please remember to bring a collection!!

Also, I did not remember to put up a new Bible Memory Verse in time for the students to study – so we will resume next Thursday with a new passage.

Have a great week!

Mission: Guatemala

We are excited to announce a partnership with the grade 6 class and 2 of the high school students that will be going on the HRA missions trip to Guatemala during Spring Break.  Our class has been appointed Megan and Kailey.  We will have the girls join our class on a few occasions between now and then so that the grade 6 students can get to know them.  We have already had a time together where we were able to ask them what they were most excited about and most fearful about, in regards to the trip.  We will continue to pray for good health and safety while they are travelling, as well as many opportunities for them to connect with the local people.

In preparation for the trip, the missions team is asking for the following donations to bring along.  We will have a box in our class to collect these items during the next several weeks.  The toys, t-shirts, & hats/gloves can be gently used or new.  The school supplies and hygiene items should be in new condition.

SMALL Toys – vehicles (Hot Wheels, etc.), dolls (Polly Pockets, etc), marbles, skipping ropes, anything else that is small

T-SHIRTS – without large logos and in good condition

HATS – summer, packable (squishable), logos small or not present

GLOVES – Light weight (summer) but heavy duty

SCHOOL SUPPLIES- pencils with pencil sharpeners, erasers, pens, rulers, crayons, etc

PERSONAL HYGIENE – soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, comb, hairbrushes (small), hair accessories

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
